Dear 3rd/4th grade and Art Teachers,

A little over one week from tomorrow on Tuesday, February 19th, we are introducing a new curriculum for Nebraska 3rd and 4th grade students. This free curriculum is based on the historic Eugene Kingman/New York Times Mural which was painted in Omaha and hung in the lobby of the New York Times for more than 40 years.

RSVP Here: https://joslyncastle.com/about/rsvp-for-the-eugene-kingman-teacher-orientation.html

The teachers who created the curriculum have aligned it with NDE Academic Content Standards for Social Studies, ELA or Fine Arts. We will have teachers who are currently using the curriculum on hand to share their experiences with you.

Who was Eugene Kingman? Kingman arrived in Nebraska in 1946, a remarkably talented 37 year old who had been named director of Omaha’s Joslyn Art Museum. But Kingman, the renowned young Regionalist painter, had also just been commissioned by the New York Times to paint a mural for its new lobby. The resulting artwork, an incredibly accurate view of the world from space, was painted in Joslyn’s galleries and became an icon in New York City when Kingman installed it two years later. Kingman’s story includes his contributions during World War II, his leadership in Omaha and Joslyn, and the tale of his New York Times mural and its 2016 return to Omaha. And, it includes images of a dozen of his Nebraska paintings
