Nebraska Homeschool is pleased to share the following message:

The App Challenge Kick-Off this year will be hosted by Congressman Bacon at the AIM Institute on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 1-3pm. Attendance is open to all eligible students, parents, teachers, and organizations involved with STEM education in Nebraska’s Second District. Accordingly, I would like to invite you as a community leader in STEM to participate in this exciting event and learn more about the Congressional App Challenge. Organizations with STEM programs designed for middle and high school students are encouraged to come and educate attendees about the services and opportunities they provide.

We are also looking for expert judges to evaluate student app submissions for this year’s App Challenge (Judging Rubric attached).

The Congressional APP Challenge is an annual coding competition offered through participating congressional offices for middle and high school students to cultivate their talent and ingenuity by developing and demonstrating an “app” for mobile, tablet, web or other computer-based platform. Please visit http://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/ for more information about competition rules and submission procedures.

Last year’s winners came from Marian High School and their submission “Fresh In the Fridge” can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9sxi-Unnf4&feature=youtu.be. Each year, the winning team is honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. and have in the past received gift certificates from Southwest Airlines and Amazon for securing air travel to the event and to further develop their app.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please feel free to share this information with anyone else you feel may be interested.

STUDENT PARTICIPATION & REGISTRATION
